Engaging Everyone

SamWThere are some key things on which we place a high-value in bringing our very best to God from New Walk’s stage each weekend, one of those being ENERGY. Likewise, there are a number of things in our CODE that highlight why we do what we do with energy and excitement. Here are a couple:

We will maintain an extraordinary amount of excitement and energy over things that matter most to God! We will not be silent as we take next steps in our walk with Christ.

The enemy is aggressive; therefore, we cannot afford to be passive in the way we spread the gospel. Without compromising God’s word, we will embrace change and intentionally engage the culture through the power of Jesus Christ.

It’s our goal to inspire everyone to dream bigger and to pursue their passions like never before! We will do all that we can to see people unleashed with new purpose through Jesus Christ!

When asked “What’s the best advise you’ve ever received?” Worship leader, Elias Dummer, in an interview on worshiptogether.com, answered with this: “You’re there for the whole room, not just the “shotgun worshipers”, who would probably shout “amen!” at the sound of feedback. The guy at the back of the room with his arms crossed who doesn’t even like church music, that’s the guy who needs to see Jesus today. Watch him too.” Click Here to read the full interview.

This is an important reminder for everyone leading worship. We must always ask the vital question, “Why do we strive to bring energy to the stage and be as engaging as possible?” One good reason is that guy sitting in the back who doesn’t want to be there. We want to inspire EVERYONE to encounter their Creator and worship Him with us.

Something I say to my team periodically is “Are you having a good time? Well, tell your face.” It’s a friendly reminder to everyone that people will more likely want to engage in worship with us if they see that it can be a very fun and spiritually fufilling act. If the band looks like there’s somewhere else they’d rather be, well guess what… there’s already someone sitting in the back that feels that way, and that gives them further ammunition to say, “See, even the musicians on stage don’t want to be here.”

There is joy that is found when we give it all away and worship with restless abandon. Let me be clear, putting a smile on your face, moving around the stage and inviting everyone to worship with you should never be overshadowed by possessing a genuine heart for worship and being totally authentic in your approach. That would not be pleasing to God, and we’re ultimately here to lift Him up in praise, not to say “hey, check us out. Isn’t this fun?”

The fact of the matter is, when I’m grinning from ear to ear and singing out as loud as I can, I am having fun. God blessed me with the gift of being able to create music, and what better use of those gifts than using them to praise Him for all He’s done? When we worship, we’re in our element… and it’s a beautiful thing.

Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”
